KUALA LUMPUR: This will make Selangor fans even more angry. Their beloved team, the most successful in Malaysia Cup history, bowed out early in this year's competition.
Even before the shock elimination by Pahang in the round of 16 yesterday, Selangor fans have been voicing their dissatisfaction with the club's management over poor results.
The 2-1 loss to Pahang in the second leg at the MBPJ Stadium (3-2 on aggregate) must have been the final straw for the fans who have been calling for the resignation of Selangor FC chief executive Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon.
And Selangor's new Japanese coach Katsuhito Kinoshi suffered his second setback in his second match in a week. Earlier Selangor were beaten 2-1 at home by Thailand's Muangthong FC in an AFC Champions League 2 match.
Selangor fans have lost their patience with the club's management. The last time their team won the Malaysia Cup was in 2015.
Kinoshi admitted to being disappointed for failing to get a win for Selangor fans, but the Japanese maintained a sense of perspective.
"It's not a tragedy. We need to study and learn from these matches."
Actually, it is a tragedy for the Selangor when their team got kicked out of the Malaysia Cup so early.
Pahang head coach, Fandi Ahmad, hailed his team's discipline and tactical approach in the victory.
"We didn't want to open up against Selangor because their quality was far better than ours. We had to stay compact and play on the counter."
