KUALA LUMPUR: Financially stricken Kedah have dismissed rumours that they plan to pull out from the 2024-25 Super League and join the A1 Semi-Pro League.
In a statement posted on Kedah FC's official social media pages, the club denied the claims by netizens.
"Kedah have never sent any letter expressing intention to withdraw from the Super League and transition to the A1 Semi-Pro League.
"The club's management requests that those responsible for spreading this false information issue a public apology, as such rumours have tarnished the club's reputation," said the statement.
Kedah FC have been embroiled in bad publicity in recent months with reports of players boycotting training sessions due to unpaid salaries.
Kedah's foreign player, Sony Norde, was reported to have walked to training as he could not afford fuel for his car due to unpaid salaries.
As senior players stayed away, coach Nafuzi Zain had to rely on the club's Under-23 players for a Super League match against KL City in September. Kedah lost 5-0, and shortly afterward, Nafuzi left the team.
