Mirabel earns a place in Arnold Palmer Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Mirabel Ting has added another feather to her cap in the first year of her collegiate golf career in the United States.

The 18-year-old from Augusta University has qualified to play for Team International in the prestigious Arnold Palmer Cup in June in Pennsylvania.

The Arnold Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup-style team competition featuring the 24 finest American men's and women's collegiate golfers against 24 from the rest of the world.

Mirabel made the Team International women's roster by virtue of being among the top six players in the final qualifying ranking list on April 25.

Other international players who made the cut were Spanish duo Julia Lopez Ramirez and Carla Bernat, Charlotte Heath (England), Maddison Hinson-Tolchard (Australia) and Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn (Thailand).

Mirabel is set to become the third Malaysian, after Alyaa Abdulghany (2020) and Ashley Lau (2022), to feature in the tournament,Natasha Andrea Oon was also selected for last year's edition, but opted out after turning professional.

"Qualifying for the Arnold Palmer Cup is huge, but to achieve it as a freshman (first-year student) makes it even better," said Mirabel.

"It's an honour to be representing both the International Team and my country, Malaysia, at such a prestigious tournament."

Mirabel competed in five events in the United States to date and recorded four top-10 finishes, including a victory in her first-ever collegiate tournament at the Moon Golf Invitational in February.
