KUCHING: It was a good day at the office for Sarawak golfers Anson Yeo Boon Xiang and Mirabel Ting as they took the first-round lead in the men's and women's individual events of the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) at the Sarawak Golf Club here today.
However, Anson had to share the lead with Terengganu's Danial Nazari after they both carded an identical score of one-under 71.
Pahang's Putera Haikal Hakeem Halim and Perlis' Hareez Hezri played par golf to stay just one stroke behind.
Mirabel, meanwhile, was on song as she carded a three-under 69 for a four-stroke lead in the women's individual event.
Johor's Sohniya Chandra, Federal Territories' Ng Jing Xuen and Perak's Wang Xin Yao are in the chasing pack after carding identical one-over 73.
Mirabel's outstanding start also helped Sarawak take the lead in the women's team event with a first-day total score of 13-over 229 - three shots ahead of joint second-placed Perak and Kuala Lumpur (16-over 232).
In the men's team event, Selangor and Pahang shared top spot with an identical score of nine-over 225, with hosts Sarawak lurking just a stroke behind (10-under 226). – BERNAMA
