Flawless Amir shines at weather-hit PKNS Selangor Masters

PETALING JAYA: Amir Nazrin Jailani carded a flawless three-under 67 to sit in provisional joint second place on a weather-affected opening day at the US$175,000 (RM826,000) PKNS Selangor Masters today.

The 26-year-old sank three birdies to tie for second with Thailand's Runchanapong Youprayong, the last year's runner-up.

They were just one shot behind clubhouse leader Rahil Gangjee of India, who birdied two of his closing holes at the par-70 Seri Selangor Golf Club to finish with a 66.

Play was halted at 4pm due to lightning and resumed after an hour and a half. It was later called off at 7.20pm due to fading light, with 33 players yet to complete their round.

Marcus Lim, Casper Loh and Syahiran Syakir were among the local players who enjoyed a solid start, each carding matching 68s to be tied for provisional third.

Marcus, who was part of the Malaysian team that won the gold medal at the 2022 Vietnam Sea Games, was making his first start as a professional in the event.

He mixed five birdies with three bogeys, including one on his opening hole.

"I'm not going to lie, I was feeling a little nervous for some reason. I've never really felt this kind of nervousness before. It was good," said Marcus.

"I missed a short putt on No. 1 to make bogey, but as soon as I missed that, I was like, alright, game on. I bounced back with a couple of birdies on the next few holes, so it was good. All in all, it was a pretty solid round."
