KUALA LUMPUR: Team Malaysia emerged as the overall winner of the China-Malaysia 50th-year Diplomatic Relations Golf Series after the final round today at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Team Malaysia won the series 4-2 after claiming the sixth leg with 10.5 points while China had 6.5 points.
Team Malaysia's Robert Lee topped the gross category after shooting a 76 with a 4-handicap. The award for the category was presented by the New Straits Times Deputy Group Editor Sharanjit Singh Tara Singh.
China's Kevin Wong won the medal A category after carding a 70 with a 14-handicap. Malaysia's Datuk Hen YK emerged as the winner of the medal B category with a 72 and 19-handicap.
Cindy Khoo, representing Team China, won the Best Lady player category after posting an 85 with a 26-handicap.
Team Malaysia captain Datuk Danny Tan described his side's success as a wonderful victory.
He said the victory was due to the quality of the players, which increased the team's chances of winning from the get-go.
WDA Technology Sdn Bhd chief executive officer and the series organiser, Martial Loh Yeng Kiat, said the series helped foster closer ties between Malaysia and China.
He added that the series also serves as a platform for new golf players to showcase their talent, and he hopes to see a bigger series next year.
The China-Malaysia Diplomatic Relations Golf Series, which featured six rounds, was jointly organised by WDA Technology Sdn Bhd with the New Straits Times Press as official media partner.
