MHC, Royal Selangor Club host their first ever age-group competition

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) and the Royal Selangor Club in Bukit Kiara here held their first collaborative grass hockey tournament on Friday.

The Under-12 boys' and girls' categories saw an overwhelming number of entries for the 19th edition.

There were 21 teams in the boys' event and 14 girls' teams in the tournament held at the Royal Selangor Club.

MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said this was their first collaboration with a club to jointly host an age-group tournament.

"MHC decided on this joint venture with RSC because they have a long history in sports, and the response was great," said Subahan.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh handed out the prizes.

"This is a very important grassroots event, and I am happy with the response from the girls because we are all working towards the empowerment of women in sports," she said.

The boys' title was won by KL Hockey Club B, who beat SJ Stingers 3-2, while Sri Kandi SJ beat JM Hawks 2-1 on penalties for the girls' crown.

Saturday will see veterans and Open category matches held at the same grass venue.

On another matter, Yeoh said the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Malaysian National Cycling Federation were looking into Le Tour de Langkawi's removal from the UCI international calendar.

"This is not a new issue (money) and is being handled by the NSC and MNCF.

"The same goes for the FA Cup final incident at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. There is a police report, and let them investigate the matter," she said.
