Malaysia eye final at women's Indoor Hockey Asia Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's team are confident of reaching the final of the Indoor Hockey Asia Cup in Chonburi, Thailand, which starts on May 13.

The champions will earn a ticket to next year's World Cup in Croatia.

At the 2022 Bangkok Asia Cup, Malaysia finished third behind champions Thailand and Indonesia.

Malaysia are in Group A in Chonburi with Kazakhstan, Iran, Nepal and Oman while Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand will make up Group B.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation indoor hockey chairman Shurizan Mansor said: "I am confident our women will create history by reaching the Asia Cup final for the first time.

"The players are ready for the battle. However, the first mission is to reach the semi-finals."

Coach Rodzhanizam Mat Radzi disclosed that the players have been preparing for the tournament since March.

Midfielders: Nuraslinda Said, Raja Norsharina Raja Shahbuddin;

Forwards: Nur Atira Mohamad Ismail, Iren Hussin, Siti Nur Arfah Nor, Ellya Syahirah Ellias.
