Malaysian Tigress winless in six matches in Cardiff

KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's hockey team drew three and lost three matches to their Welsh counterparts in Cardiff from Aug 2-10.

The first three matches were friendlies: The Malaysian Tigress drew 2-2 and lost the next two with identical scores of of 2-1.

The next three were Test matches with ranking points offered: World No. 23 Malaysia drew 2-2, lost 2-0 and drew 2-2 against world No. 25 Wales.

The Wales team also paraded players from the English League, preparing for the European League which begins next month.

Coach Nasihin Nubli, who took the Malaysian women's team to fifth placing in the Hangzhou Asian Games last October, said: "A few of our junior players have shown maturity while the seniors have proved why they deserve to be in the national team.

"However, there are some areas we need to focus on. Among them are fitness, speed, power, and technical skill when playing under pressure, and also to be mentally stronger."
