Speedy Tigresses defy odds to reach semi-finals in Bihar

KUALA LUMPUR: The Speedy Tigresses defeated Thailand 2-0 in their final round-robin match to reach the semi-finals of the women's Asian Champions Trophy at Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar, India today.

World No. 24 Malaysia completed their five round-robin matches with six points from two wins and three defeats.

Malaysia lost to India 4-0 and China 5-0 before they upset world No. 15 South Korea 3-2.

Malaysia finished fourth among six teams and will likely face India in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar (41st) and Nur Iman Adawiyah Suhaimi (53rd) scored for the Speedy Tigresses in today's win over Thailand.

Coach Nasihin Nubli said his team did enough to beat Thailand today.

"We need to rectify our weaknesses before the semi-finals. Although we have reached the semi-finals, we are not yet among the best in Asia," said Nasihin.
