Lailin demands more as Young Tigresses edge Thailand in JAC opener

KUALA LUMPUR: Coach Lailin Abu Hasan was far from impressed despite the Young Tigresses starting their Women's Junior Asia Cup (JAC) campaign with a 3-0 victory over Thailand in a Group A match in Muscat today (Dec 7).

He was concerned with his team's poor finishing both via penalty corners and open play.

Malaysia earned 11 penalty corners but managed to convert only three.

The team, aiming for a top-five finish to secure qualification for the 2025 Junior World Cup, went on the offensive from the outset.

Nurshamine Azureen Badusha gave Malaysia the lead in the ninth minute via a penalty corner.

The Young Tigresses maintained their attacking momentum, adding two more penalty corner goals through Nur Syahirah Azwan (31st minute) and Nor Zulaikha Nazihah Tamjit (54th).

"Converting only three goals out of 11 penalty corner attempts is not good enough," he said.

"We need to be sharper when we face favourites India on Monday."

In another Group A match earlier today, China demolished Bangladesh 19-0.
