Mixed martial arts fighter Murugan "Wolverine" Silvarajoo has vowed to do the nation proud when he steps into the cage for his ONE Championship debut next week.
The 29-year-old will face Indonesia's formidable wrestler Eko Roni Saputra in the 63.5kg division at ONE: Reign of Dynasties in a battle held behind closed doors at an undisclosed location on Friday next week.
Murugan, who previously fought in the Thailand Championship, said he has been working on developing a complete arsenal.
"To be fighting in the world's largest martial arts fight organisation (ONE) is a dream come true for me," said the Kuala Lumpur-born Murugan.
"I know it won't be easy but I have been very focused on my training and have been preparing my game plans. I feel I am 100 per cent ready.
"For ONE to put me up against Eko is a recognition of my abilities.
"I can strike, I can grapple. I can hurt my opponents both standing and on the ground. These are my strengths.
"Everyone can expect a surprise from a 'new me' when I step in the cage."
Murugan added that he wants to repay his supporters' faith in him with a strong performance.
"I want to thank all those who have been supporting me all these years from when I was nothing. I appreciate it a lot and it motivates me to push myself to the limit... without these people I am nothing.
"I will make Malaysia and the people who support me proud."
Eko is coming off two wins. having beaten Cambodian Khon Sichan in February (Warrior's Code) and Filipino Kaji Ebin last October (Dawn of Valor). Both his opponents failed to make it past the first round.
Reign of Dynasties will be headlined by the ONE strawweight muay thai world title bout between Thai defending champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and Australian contender Josh "Timebomb" Tonna.
