KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian company E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd has secured a five-year contract extension as the rights holder for the FIM Asia Supermoto Championships, which is set to become one of the premier events in the world next season.
E-Plus Global chief executive officer Andrew Chieng said the company will assume full control of the event from next year.
Global have been sharing the rights with Bike Nation Sdn Bhd under the Asia Supersports Group (ASG) banner since 2015,
"Obviously we are very happy to secure the extension with an option to sign for another five years. We are in the process of acquiring ASG and will have full control from next year," said Andrew, when met at the launch of the fifth and final round of the series in Bukit Jalil on Sunday.
"The S1GP series in Europe will not be held from next season onwards and many riders from Europe are looking to race in Asia.”
FIM Asia, the regional governing body, who granted E-Plus Global the extension, have set a minimum requirement of holding four legs each season.
"In general, we have been hosting four to six races each year and hopefully we can do more than that in the coming years.
"For next year, we plan to have races in Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China and also in Malaysia."
Malaysia Major Events (MME) are keen to continue its support, according to its general manager Tony Nagamaiah.
"It is good to see a series, organised by a Malaysian company, that is gaining popularity.
“We hope the grand finale will continue to be held in Malaysia in the coming seasons,” he said.
