TANGKAK: CP150 defending champion Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin showed he remains the man to beat as he set the early pace at the season opening round of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the Tangkak Racing Track yesterday.
Kasma, competing in both the Cub Prix CP150 and SuperSports 600cc categories in the Asia Road Racing Championships this season, led an eight-man pack that finished within a second of each other. The Johor-born rider came out tops on a solid 44.230s.
Second fastest was Ahmad Afif Amran of team Petronas Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ who clocked 44.430s followed by Mohd Ramdan Rosli who settled for third on 44.624s.
Lap times at the 1.24km Tangkak Racing Track have been approximately half a second slower as compared to last year’s.
"The surface grip was better last year," explained Kasma. "The track had recently been resurfaced and race conditions are still quite challenging."
Tengku Amirul Haffirudin of team Motul Zeneos Yamaha YY Pang Racing topped the CP115 qualifier after clocking 46.497s. Md Haziq Md Fairues from Team Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor and Md Fareez Afeez from team Motul Zeneos Yamaha YY Pang Racing rounded out the top three.
In the age-capped WIRA KBS category, Md Afizi Supaat topped the Wira Shootout with 47.432s followed by Md Danial Syahmi and Md Harith Haziq Zamri with 47.514s and 47.695s.
