KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of the Petronas Malaysia Cub Prix Championships are hoping to return closer to their roots when the country begins transitioning into the endemic phase of Covid-19 on April 1.
Cub Prix boss Ron Hogg said they were awaiting the latest set of regulations with bated breath.
The domestic motorsport industry, which depends on races and sponsorship to survive, was among the hardest hit when the pandemic struck in 2020.
"We are eagerly awaiting the transition to the endemic phase. We also hope the rules will be further amended (relaxed)," said Hogg today.
"We are hoping to bring the event back to some of our temporary tracks instead of just using permanent ones.
"Using only permanent tracks has taken away some of the excitement, which Cub Prix is known for.
"Shifting to temporary tracks will allow us to bring the sport to the people, which is what we are all about.
"We are also hoping that children will be allowed to come and watch the races. At the moment, only fully vaccinated fans are allowed to attend the races."
Cub Prix is traditionally held on tight, technical temporary tracks such as the iconic Batu Kawan circuit. The races are now held at permanent tracks such Sepang, Kuala Terengganu and Tangkak due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The championships will feature 10 rounds this year with the venues for round five (July 16-17) and round 10 (Dec 3-4) yet to be decided.
