KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s hope to at least win one match at the Women Hockey World League Semi-Finals in Brussels, were dashed on Thursday by Scotland in the ninth-tenth playoff.
A seventh minute penalty corner converted by Sarah Robertson was enough to see the Malaysian Tigress’ end their campaign in last place.
Malaysia had earlier lost all four matches – Australia (3-0), Spain (3-1), Belgium (9-0) and New Zealand (1-0) – to finish at the bottom of Pool B.
Defender Nuraini Abd Rashid, expressed her disappointment at the level of refereeing, but it was a little too late to turn things around for the national team.
“We were not happy with some of the referee’s decisions but there was nothing we could do about it.
“We just kept fighting to find the equaliser.
“It is sad and extremely disappointing that we didn’t win a single match here, but we have all given our best,” said Nuraini.
