KL2017: Malaysia settle for bronze in sepak takraw team regu event

THE national sepak takraw team settled for a disappointing bronze in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games team regu event after going down tamely 3-0 to defending champions Thailand at the Titiwangsa Indoor Stadium this morning.

It was the team's second straight loss in the round-robin format competition having gone down 2-1 to Indonesia in their second match yesterday.

The win saw Thailand continuing their stranglehold on the gold which they have won at every edition of the games since 1993. Indonesia took the silver while Brunei also settled for bronze alongside Malaysia.

The result is one of the worst for the country and is especially disappointing considering the substantial funding pumped into the sport via the Podium and Kita Juara programme.

Malaysia had finished second behind Thailand in the event at the Singapore Sea Games two years ago.
