KUALA LUMPUR: The gold medal success in the 110m hurdles at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games is not the end of the road for veteran Rayzam Syah Wan Sofian.
In fact the hurdler is eyeing success on a bigger stage and becoming an Asian champion at the Asian Games from Aug 18 to Sept 2 next year in Indonesia.
Rayzam felt that it is not something far fetched or unrealistic if he works hard to improve his hurdling technique.
“I have gained valuable experience and have fond memories from KL2017, and my win was made even sweeter by the fact that I am the first Malaysian hurdler to win the event in a decade.
“So, I need to be consistent first in my quest to improve even further, and it is not impossible for me to win at the Asian Games next year even though my best time for now could only enable me to win bronze when what I want is the gold,” said Rayzam.
The hurdler from Sabah said apart from the Asian Games, he will also be focusing on the Commonwealth Games on April 4-April 15 next year in Gold Coast, Australia.
Rayzam also hopes more young hurdlers will come through the ranks and challenge for honours on the international stage.
At KL2017, Rayzam won gold in the 110m hurdles by clocking a time of 13.83s. His success came a decade after he won gold in the same event at the 2007 SEA Games in Thailand as an 18-year-old.
