KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Eain Yow and S. Sivasangari were crowned the best squash players of 2017 at the SRAM Awards in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to cement their position as the future of the sport.
Former world junior champion Eain Yow rose to 46th in the world on the back of winning the Australian Open and reaching the Malaysian Open final to claim the men's award.
With Nicol David not nominated, the women's award went to Sivasangari, who won three professional titles to reach No 43 in the world.
Asian Under-19 champion Siow Yee Xian and Sea Games gold medalist Aifa Azman bagged the boys' and girls' junior awards respectively.
The coach of the year award went to Jrar Aslam who has been instrumental in Kedah dominating the sport at junior level.
Earlier, Aifa became the youngest Malaysian to win a PSA Tour title at the Malaysian Tour's second leg.
Aifa, 16, defeated teammate Andrea Lee 11-6, 11-7, 11-9 in the women's final at the Royal Selangor Club for her first professional title.
Syafiq Kamal could not make it a Malaysian double after losing the men's final 11-4, 9-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-5 to Pakistan's Asim Khan.
