KUALA LUMPUR: Senior actress and singer Amy Mastura, 53, recently shared her perspective on polygamy, emphasising the importance of positive thinking and acceptance in relationships.
"We don't own anything in this world, not even our life partners.
"Everything ultimately belongs to God, including our husbands.
"If we believe we 'own' them, it becomes harder to let go when the time comes," she told Berita Harian.
Amy, who was met at a recent press conference for her new drama Berbahagi Suami, explained that while she's not suggesting a readiness to face such a situation, cultivating a mindset of acceptance helps one cope better.
"If someone takes our husband, we'd naturally feel angry or devastated—that's normal.
"But if we understand that a husband has the right to choose, it helps us decide whether to stay and face it or to leave," she added.
She also advised husbands to be transparent and encouraged wives to treat their spouses well for the sake of their faith.
"God willing, we can face whatever challenges come our way with calmness," she said.
Reflecting on her own 24-year marriage to Alvin Tham Suffian, Amy shared how she continues to learn and grow as a wife and mother.
"Marriage isn't always perfect. I was young and inexperienced when I first got married, but over time, understanding religion and faith has brought me peace and happiness.
"It has also strengthened my family relationships."
Amy and Alvin are parents to two daughters, Adriana, 23, and Adalia, 20.
On June 6, the family performed the Hajj together.
