Nur Azmi not giving up

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) senior vice-president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad is a person who never gives up.

Nur Azmi is one of nine candidates vying for the five vice-president’s posts at the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) elections on May 5.

He also contested in the last elections for the same post but was not elected.

Nur Azmi said he has not given up on contesting for the position as he believes he has a lot to contribute to sports in the country.

"I have experience in managing sports associations. To develop sports in the country, one must never give up," said Azmi.

"Although I am no longer involved with hockey, I am active as a council member with the Melaka Boxing Association and also the Malaysian Karate Federation.

"But the reason I am running for the position again is because I feel that OCM need better planning to improve (Malaysian) sports at the international level."

Azmi, however, admitted that it will be tough to win one of the five vice-president's positions as there are nine nominees vying for the slots.

"It will be tough as everyone has their strengths. However, I feel that new faces should be given a chance. Everyone has a right to contest."
