KUALA LUMPUR: Former Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar has been congratulated by the council’s executive board and management after it was announced that he has been elected as an International Olympic Committee (IOC) honorary member during the 133rd IOC Session that was held on Monday, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Tunku Imran was elected as an IOC member before back in 2006. He was also appointed as a member of IOC’s sport and law Commission (2002-2014), IOC’s sport for all commission (2006-2015) and IOC’s sport and active society (2015-now).
Tunku Imran reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 for an IOC member on March 21 this year. The election as an IOC honorary member entitles him to the same privileges as an IOC member, except for the right to vote.
Via a media statement, OCM stated that it is looking forward to working closely with Tunku Imran to promote and enhance the Olympic Movement here in Malaysia.
