DATUK Shahrul Zaman Yahya retained his position as Malaysia Rugby (MR) president at the national body’s annual general meeting-cum-elections for the 2019-22 term in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He garnered 24 votes while his challenger, Tan Sri Wira Abdul Halim Karim received only 19.
Shahrul said “I am happy that the election process went smoothly. In an unprecedented move, we engaged the services of an external auditor to oversee the whole election process to ensure transparency.
“We thus must find a way to make MR more inclusive so that all voices are he ard,” said Shahrul.
Amir Amri Mohamad defeated Datuk Tamunif Mokhtar 26-17 for the deputy president's position.
The two vice-president’s posts went to Fahmy Jalil (37) and Zaki Shahran (27).
Raimi Yusof (21) was the only other candidate in the category.
The four committee member positions went to former national coach Lee Nyuk Fah (31), Dr Ahmad Naim Ismail (24), Khairulnizam Mohd Isa (22) and Ahmad Effendy Abdul Razak (21).
Najib Johan (15), Najib Hamzah (12), Ezwan Jamil (9), Idrus Ismail (13), Norfazreim Imran (15) and Nur Suraimee Ahmad (8) were the other contenders for the committee member positions.
