Bowler Timmy Tan ready to roll in Manila

HAVING helped Malaysia knock powerhouse South Korea off their perch in the Asian Championships, national bowler Timmy Tan has set himself another target for the Philippines Sea Games next month.

The 25-year-old intends to make up for finishing empty-handed in the 2017 KL Games by blazing the alley in Manila.

In the recent Asian meet in Kuwait, Timmy surprised everyone, including himself, to bag the men’s singles and all-events gold medals.

“I didn’t expect to do so well at the Asian Championships,” admitted Timmy upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday.

“Although I won the men’s singles in 2016, I did not put additional pressure on myself this time.

“So, I managed to bowl well, including hitting a perfect game, to win it again.”

Now, armed with his new-found confidence, Timmy intends to go in with all guns blazing in Manila.

“I’m happy to be in the Sea Games squad again,” said Timmy.

“I didn’t even get a medal at previous edition, so I definitely want to put up a better showing this time.

“I believe we have a strong squad for Manila.

“I’m definitely excited about this year’s Games and I’m also confident we can go there and come back with good results,” added Timmy.

The others in the men’s team for for Manila are Ahmad Muaz Fishol, Rafiq Ismail and Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam.

For the Philippines Sea Games, the host have removed the trios event.

There will only be singles (men and women), doubles (men, women and mixed), team and masters events.

Apart from that, the usual team of five event has also been changed to a team of four.

At the 2017 KL Games, Malaysia had 7-4-3 medal haul.
