KUALA LUMPUR, who were relegated from the Super League last season, have had enough with shoddy agents.
Last season, the former Malaysia Cup champions claimed they were tricked by agents into signing players carrying injuries.
The Kuala Lumpur FA (KLFA) secretary-general Nokman Mustaffa said his team paid the price after being cheated by agents.
KL were forced to terminate the contract of Indonesian international Achmad Jufriyanto in February after he picked up a serious injury during pre-season.
Brazilian striker Guilherme de Paula was also out for six months during the season following a tendon injury.
A wiser KL have only retained nine players for the new season and are looking to beef up their squad with quality signings as they hope to shine in the Premier League.
‘We will be careful this time when signing new players. We will assess them in training on whether they are fit or not before offering contracts.
‘All players will be sent to University Malaya (UM) for a fitness test as UM has a good system in place,’ said Nokman recently.
Among the new signings so far are national player Akram Mahinan, S. Subramaniam, Shukor Adan, Qayyum Marjoni and Nik Shahrul Azim Abdul Halim.
Former Kedah coach Nidzam Adzha has been hired to manage KL next season.
‘We have a list of players we want to sign, but they will only be offered contracts after they are certified fit,’ he added.
Nokman also claimed that KLFA do not have financial issues ahead of the new season.
