The Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) have issued a show cause letter to high jumper Nauraj Singh following his criticism of the national body on social media.
The national record holder is alleged to have claimed that MAF have not done anything "to help its athletes achieve standards" in a Facebook post.
MAF, who said Nauraj's claims are unscrupulous, vexatious, defamatory and false, have demanded an apology and explanation within 14 days.
Failure to reply will see Nauraj being referred to their Disciplinary Committee for an inquiry, in which MAF have the power to impose penalties if he is found guilty of misconduct.
"Based on your written statement in the social media, we understand that you have stated your disappointment towards MAF, its purpose of existence and management team," read the MAF letter.
"You have accused that MAF does nothing to help athletes to achieve standards and it's better to not have an Association (Federation). You further stated on social media that while you were in Europe for six months, MAF has not supported you and is expecting good results from you.
"You also accused that MAF has poor and unknowledgeable management, which is busy deciding which team manager to send to Tokyo. We were most disheartened to receive such statements from you. Your purported conduct is disgraceful and unbecoming of a member of the athletics community.
"We do not tolerate such unscrupulous and unethical statements of yours which inevitably tarnish the good name of the MAF. Your statement sullies the good name of the Federation and the management and also erodes the public's confidence in them as those uphold the standard and welfare of the athletes.
"We will do the necessary to defend the dignity and integrity of our Federation. We trust that you will take note of our concerns and be guided accordingly."
