Nurul out of world meet

A wrist injury has sidelined Puteri Nurul Dini Mohd Fauzi from next month's World Championships in Dubai.

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC), who will be finalising their squad next week, said Nurul suffered the injury late last month.

MTBC secretary general, Maradona Chok said: "We have lost an opportunity to give Nurul Dini a much needed exposure at the highest level.

"Major events like this are very important to bring up young bowlers fast.

"Our main objective for the young Sea Games squad is for them to get exposure and experience, bowling alongside the elite.

"Having said that, we wish Nurul Dini a speedy recovery and hope to have her rejoin us soon."

It is understood that Nurul, who is seen as a replacement for the retired Shalin Zulkifli, injured her wrist after resuming her training for two weeks at the Sunway Mega Lanes last month.

Currently, 11 men and seven women are vying for selection to the world meet on Nov 2-16.

Those in the running for the men's team are 2018 World Championships singles gold medallist Rafiq Ismail, doubles gold medallist Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam, Timmy Tan, Ahmad Muaz Fishol, Syafiq Ridhwan Malek, Hafiz Zainuddin, Syazirol Shamsudin, Nevern Netaneel, Shahrukh Amin Zulkifli, Shafiy Zaim, and Akmal Qayyim Ali.

Those in contention for the women's team are Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Natasha Roslan, Nerosha Keligit, Gillian Lim, Nur Syazwani Sahar, Nora Lyana Nastasia, and Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik.

Meanwhile, Maradona said MTBC, for the first time, will send a team to the World Masters Championships on Nov 16-27. The 14-member team are self funded but will be accompanied by one coach and one team manager from MTBC.
