The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia's (STAM) annual general meeting-cum-elections should be held as early as possible as a new leadership is important to expedite the revamp of the national body and resolve issues.
This was stated by Gabungan Sepak Takraw Kelantan president Zuraidin Abdullah yesterday.
As STAM hold their supreme council meeting today, Zuraidin said Kelantan will propose that the AGM be held on Jan 15,
"It (AGM) has been too long already, and there are a number of unresolved issues," said Zuraidin.
STAM acting president Datuk Akramuddin Abdul Aziz had said that the AGM will be held before June next year.
Malaysia are not an affiliate of the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (Astaf) after STAM were expelled from the Asian body earlier this year following a fallout with their former president Datuk Seri Ahmad Ismail.
STAM will also discuss the fate of the Sepak Takraw League (STL), sheduled to be held between January and March, at their supreme council meeting today.
Astaf, on Sunday, warned the 31 Malaysian referees, accredited with the Asian body, that disciplinary action will be taken against them if they participate in the STL.
Astaf also "strongly advised" Malaysia against proceeding with the competition next month.
The Sports Commissioner's Office, however, clarified that STAM have the right to organise the domestic competition and can use referees not licensed by Astaf.
