THE Malaysia Karate Federation (Makaf) rejected the appeals of five former affiliates in yesterday's extraordinary general meeting (EGM) in Kuala Lumpur.
Makaf were embroiled in an internal feud with 12 disgruntled affiliates following the 2018 AGM. It led to their expulsion from the federation.
Yesterday, the applications from Police, KL, Putrajaya, Sarawak, Hayashi-Ha Malaysia, Perak and Kedah were accepted.
However, the appeals from Goshin-Ryu Malaysia, Perlis, Penang, Gojukai Malaysia and Pahang were rejected.
Makaf secretary-general Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the decision was to teach the five rogue affiliates a lesson.
He added that Makaf will now hold their BGM every four years, instead of two, following an amendment to the constitution.
"We had our EGM today after it was delayed for two years by a court case.
"We made our decision to accept seven of the appeals but dropped the other five, who also applied to return to the federation," said Azmi at Wisma OCM in KL yesterday.
"If the five want to return, they have to appeal again. However, we will not block their exponents and officials from competitions. They have to show their commitment, and we will evaluate again after one year.
"The decision to reject was through open voting."
On a different note, Azmi hopes the government will look into the plight of athletes who are facing the brunt of the budget cuts.
"We have athletes who now want to quit and focus on their studies. Some associations have even called me about this issue. I hope the government will reconsider.
"I think the Sports Ministry should seek assistance from government-linked companies," he added.
