KUALA LUMPUR: Two years ago, when Paul Revington signed with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) for the second time, the South African said he had "unfinished business" here to finish.
Revington was Malaysia's chief coach in 2014 but he left after two years.
Perhaps, the former World Coach of the Year felt he could have "done more" here, and that was why Revington said he had "unfinished business" in his second coming to Malaysia.
And MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal was also hoping for Revington to make a lasting impact. In the hiring of Revington, he had also said: "It is a six-year plan to win the men's Asian Games gold medal and take the women into the semi-finals. Revington will scout for new talent with the help of states."
But for a hockey master who teaches players with sticks, Revington doesn't seem to stick around places for long.
Revington, the hitherto MHC Technical Director, announced earlier this week that he was leaving Malaysia again.
And he has opened up on why he has to move away - to coach the England and Great Britain teams.
In a social media post, Revington said: "Despite the enjoyment and passion of my work in Malaysia, the opportunity to coach the Great Britain and England senior men's team has been too big to reject. All I can hope for is that you understand and/or respect my decision".
Revington's reverse in Malaysia took many by surprise, especially when the MHC had wanted him here for several years for their many plans.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian men's team has arrived in Perth for their four-Test series against World No 1 Australia. The first match is at 4pm, tomorrow (Malaysian time).
