TABLE tennis player Choong Javen is no stranger to the podium but will look for "better colour" in his medal collection at the Hanoi Sea Games on May 12-23.
Javen, who will be making his third Sea Games appearance, was part of the bronze-winning men's team in the 2017 KL Sea Games.
He followed it up with a bronze in the men's doubles — then partnering Amos Ling — at the 2019 Manila edition.
The 21-year-old hopes to make a "breakthrough" in Hanoi this time. Training, has, however, been challenging due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"This will be my third time competing in the Sea Games.
"I hope to reach the final (which will guarantee at least silver) in either the doubles or team events," said the Seremban-born Javen.
"I want to win more medals this time and I think we have a good chance in the team event and both the men's and mixed doubles. It will be tougher in the singles.
"I have been studying a lot of videos of players from abroad to be better prepared."
Javen will partner Karen Lyne Dick in the mixed doubles, and will join forces with Wong Qi Shen in the men's doubles.
Malaysia won two bronze to place fourth overall in the sport in the 2019 Sea Games.
