BIRMINGHAM: Malaysia's Azlina Arshad, Nur Ain Nabilah Tarmizi and Syafiqa Haidra Afif Abdul Rahman made it to the final of the lawn bowls women's triples event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham today.
The trio, led by the experienced Azlina, who last tasted success in the same event in Melbourne 2006, defeated New Zealand's Nicole Toomey, Tayla Bruce and Val Smith 16-9 at the Victoria Park in Birmingham today.
Malaysia opened up a 3-1 lead after the third end and led until they reached a 16-point unassailable lead at the 17th end.
Azlina and Co will take on England in the gold medal decider later. England's Jamie Winch, Natalie Chestney and Sian Honnor defeated the Jim sisters, Emily, Tiare and Teokotai of Cook Islands, 23-11 in the other semi-final today.
There were also Malaysian victories in the women's pairs and men's singles events.
Emma Firyana Saroji-Siti Zalina Ahmad, the defending champions, marched on after fending off Northern Ireland's Megan Devlin-Shauna O'Neill to win 15-11.
The Malaysians will face Australia's Kristina Krstic-Ellen Ryan in the semi-finals.
Fairul Izwan Abd Muin was in his element in the men's singles as he thrashed Ross Davis of Jersey 21-12.
Fairul will take on Gary Kelly of Northern Ireland in the semi-finals. If he wins a medal, he will be the first Malaysian to achieve it in the event.
