An emotional win for Terengganu lawn bowler Nur Ain

KUCHING: Terengganu lawn bowler, Nur Ain Kemilia Sukri broke down in tears after winning the women's singles gold at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) today.

Nur Ain, 21, revealed that she had faced difficult times in the past four years, and was grateful that her efforts had led to her winning her first individual gold medal in the biennial Sukma.

"Two years ago, before the KL Sukma, my mother (Karniza Abdul Ghani) passed away from cancer. This year, I lost another family member, my uncle (Shapawi Abdul Ghani), who was very close to me.

"I was determined to win gold to honour them, and for Terengganu. This is my last Sukma, and I wanted to achieve something meaningful," she said.

Nur Ain defeated Selangor's Nur Najla Damia Mustakim 20-11 in the final at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena. The bronze was won by Sarawak's Dayang Nur Alia Sharmiela Abang Gadisa who beat the Federal Territories' Nur Syafira Redzuan, 19-18.
