Malaysia reach Asian squash final

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia lost their opening match before bouncing back to beat India 2-1 to reach the women's team final in the Asian Squash Championships in Cheongju, South Korea today.

Defending champion Malaysia will face Hong Kong for the title tomorrow.

In the women's semi-final, Chan Yiwen lost the first match 13-11, 8-11, 8-11, 4-11 to Anahat Singh.

But Aifa Azman had no problem beating Tanvi Khanna 11-8, 11-4, 11-5 to level the score.

Rachel Arnold then delivered the winning point with a hard fought 11-7, 10-12, 11-6, 11-4 win over Sunayna Sara Kuruvilla.

Hong Kong easily disposed of South Korea 2-0 in their semi-final.

Lee Ka Yi downed Heo Mingyeong 11-6, 11-9, 11-3 in the first tie.

Ho Tze Lok came back from a set down to beat Eum Hwayeong 8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-3.

However, the Malaysian men's team failed to qualify for the final after losing 2-1 to top seeds India.

Syafiq Kamal gave Malaysia a good start by defeating Abhay Singh 11-4, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9.

But Ng Eain Yow lost to Saurav Ghosal 9-11, 3-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9.

The pressure was on Addeen Idrakie to deliver the winning point but he lost to Ramit Tandon 11-6, 4-11, 7-11, 6-11.

India will face Kuwait in the final. Kuwait edged Hong Kong 2-1 in the semi-final.

Ali Alramezi lost to Wong Chi Him 14-16, 5-11, 3-11 but Ammar Altamimi levelled the score with a 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 14-12 win.

Abdullah Almezayen delivered the winning point by defeating Lau Tsz Kwan 11-5, 11-6, 1-11, 11-6.
