Squad heads to Perth for Junior World Cup warm-up

KUALA LUMPUR: The national junior hockey team will be leaving for Perth tomorrow for a six match playing tour as part of their preparations for the Junior World Cup in Bukit Jalil in December.

National juniors coach Amin Rahim has selected 20 players between the ages of 17 to 21. The squad will be playing all six games against the Western Australian Institute of Sports' (WAIS) under-21 side.

"This is our first playing tour for this year. We need to play as many matches as possible to prepare the squad," said Amin.

"WAIS have a solid team and they play a high density game. My boys' will definitely benefit from playing against them.

"The tour is also to evaluate the players and decide who to select for the Junior World Cup."

Amin disclosed that his charges will also see action at the Junior Asia Cup (date and venue to be decided) as well as the Sultan of Johor Cup which will be held just before the Junior World Cup.

The juniors had placed eighth from 16 teams at the 2021 edition of the Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Rafaizul Saini, Danish Afnan Faizal.

Defenders: Fauzan Shah Nizam, Azmil Muizzuddin Misron, Perabu Tangaraja, Faris Harizan, Alief Adha Akhbar, Wan Najmie Ahmad Dzaib.

Midfielders: Mughni Kamal, Danish Aiman Khairil Anuar, Khairul Norizam, Alfarico Lance Liau Jr, Addy Jazmi Jamlus, Handzalah Abdul Hadi.

Forwards: Shamir Rizmi Shamsul, Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel Suzaini, Harris Iskandar Osman, Amirul Haniff Mamat, Che Nur Aqirullah Che Mohd Khaurulzi Anwar, Hazreeq Alief Rosli.
