KUALA LUMPUR: Ho Ying has gone to six Sea Games and won eight bronze in table tennis. But she hopes to see a different colour this time.
The paddler wants to climb a step higher on the rostrum — when she competes in Phnom Penh in May. The 28-year-old from Johor is aiming for the final at least.
Ho Ying, who was 14 when she made her Sea Games debut in 2009 in Vientiane, said she has had enough of winning Sea Games bronze medals.
"My best achievement was winning three bronze in Hanoi last year, and for the first time I won a medal in the singles.
"However, I want to do better than bronze this time," said Ho Ying, who will contend for three medals — singles, doubles and team event.
"I believe I have a fighting chance to win at least silver in the singles or the doubles (with Karen Lyne).
On her rivals in Phnom Penh, Ho Ying said Singapore, powered by naturalised players from China, and Thailand will be the biggest obstacles.
As part of her preparations, Ho Ying will play in the Indonesian league next month (in the singles and doubles with Karen). She will also attend a 10-day training stint in Beijing and Hubei from March 13 to 23.
