KUALA LUMPUR: Former Asian Games medallist Chew Yiwei has retired from competitive diving.
Yiwei made the announcement on social media earlier tonight and his departure from the national squad has been confirmed by Malaysia Swimming (MS).
"Officially, I'm retired. No more diving for me," said Yiwei, who has been under the National Sports Council (NSC) programme since he was 13.
"Thanks to Olympic Council of Malaysia, NSC, MS and National Sports Institute for providing all the opportunities and services. Without any of you, I would not be where I am."
It is understood that the 27-year-old intends to focus on completing his studies.
Yiwei had won bronze in the men's 10 metre platform synchronised with partner Ooi Tze Liang at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
He later claimed bronze in the men's 3m springboard individual event at the 2018 Indonesia Asian Games.
