Sea Games: Cambodia apologises to Indonesia over flag incident

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodia Sea Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) have apologised to Indonesia for carrying the latter's flag upside down during the opening ceremony yesterday.

The Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI) had sent a letter to CAMSOC detailing the incident which prompted the latter to apologise to the Indonesian contingent.

KOI secretary-general Harry Warganegara said Cambodia admitted to the mistake and have taken steps to ensure that it does not recur.

"Cambodia have directly apologised to us and have taken swift action to ensure that it does not happen again," said Harry today.

Dancers, who were supporting a singer's performance, had carried the Indonesian flag upside down during the opening ceremony at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, thus making it appear like a Polish flag.

The same issue occurred during Kuala Lumpur 2017 which prompted then Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to apologise to Indonesia.
