Sivasangari going for two Asian Games gold

KUALA LUMPUR: For most Malaysian athletes, to win an Asian Games medal once in their lifetime is hard to achieve. In S. Sivasangari's case, she wants two squash gold in the Hangzhou Asian Games next month.

The 24-year-old Kedahan, who will be competing in her second Asiad, said she wants to win the women's individual and team titles in the Asian showpiece.

In the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, Sivasangari won an individual silver after losing to teammate Nicol David in the final. She also got a team bronze with Nicol, Low Wee Wern and Aifa Azman.

World No. 49 and national No. 3 Sivasangari said she is training hard to achieve her two-gold target in Hangzhou.

"We have solid team players like Rachel Arnold and the Azman sisters, Aifa and Aira, to challenge for the team gold."

Sivasangari expects to face a strong challenge from Hong Kong's Chan Sin Yuk, whom she lost narrowly to (3-2) in the Asian Championships in Hong Kong in June.

"I can also expect a strong challenge from players like Ho Tze Lok of Hong Kong and Satomi Watanabe of Japan. But I'm optimistic that I can do it," said Sivasangari.
