HANGZHOU: No one would have thought that a girl from Yunnan province, named Liang Liang, is fluent in Bahasa Malaysia.
Nicknamed Husna by her Bahasa Malaysia lecturer at the Yunnan Minzu University, she has more than 500,000 followers on her social media accounts. Interestingly, many of them are from Malaysia.
Husna admitted that she is a huge fan of songstress, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza.
According to Husna, she became better in Bahasa Malaysia after listening to Siti's songs. It is learnt that most of Siti's songs are used as reference material at her university, mainly by Bahasa Malaysia students.
Husna picked up the language following a one-year exchange student programme with Universiti Malaya.
And she is speaking in Bahasa with Malaysian journalists covering the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou.
"I got excited when I saw the tiger stripe attire. I knew at once that those wearing it must be from Malaysia.
"I immediately approached them and started conversing in Bahasa Malaysia. It's very hard to practise the language here in China, because only a handful of people speak it.
"I miss Malaysia. I miss the 'pasar malam', visiting them used to be my hobby. I especially liked the ones at SS2 (Petaling Jaya) and the one at Masjid Jamek.
"Malaysia is a very safe country with so many interesting places, such as Melaka, Penang, Putrajaya and Port Dickson," said Husna who works as a Bahasa Malaysia journalist with China Media Group.
