KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has compounded five premises along Jalan Imbi, here, for not using Bahasa Malaysia in their signboards.
In a post on Facebook, DBKL said these premises had violated the Advertisements (Federal Territories) By-Laws 1982.
According to by-law 3(1), all advertisements must be in the national language, but can contain other languages as well.
Under by-law 3(2), the letters of the words in the national language must be given prominence and must be of a bigger size than the letters or characters of the words in the other language.
Photos shared by DBKL showed that most of the premises being compounded were restaurants serving Chinese cuisine in the city centre.
They said the businesses have 14 days to remove their signboards, and said members of the public who come across similar signboards could lodge a complaint to https://adukl.dbkl.gov.my.
