Malaysian women get 4×100m bronze after Bahrain are disqualified

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's 4×100m women's relay team were dramatically awarded bronze in a late twist at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

It marks Malaysia's first medal in the event since the 1966 Bangkok Games, when the M. Rajamani-led team won bronze.

Bahrain crossed the finish line third but were disqualified after performing an illegal changeover.

The quartet of Azreen Nabila Alias, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli, Nur Afrina Batrisyia Rizal and Shereen Samson Vallabouy clocked 45.01s to initially finish fourth, 0.11s behind Bahrain.

Ge Manqi anchored China to the gold in 43.39, while Sea Games champions Thailand won silver in 44.32.
