KUALA LUMPUR: Diver Pandelela Rinong was unable to advance to the semi-finals of the women's 10m platform individual event and missed out on qualifying for the Paris Olympics in the discipline at the Doha World Aquatic Championships today.
The 30-year-old placed 29th from 46 divers in the preliminaries at the Hamad Aquatics Complex after scoring a 72.00, 39.15, 59.20, 38.40 and 22.40 series for a 231.15 total score.
She thus missed the top-18 cut for the semi-finals.
Only the top-12 divers from this edition of the World Championships, not including those who have already qualified (15), will secure a berth in Paris.
Pandelela had previously won bronze in the event at the 2012 London Olympics.
Youngster Nur Eilisha Rania Muhammad Abrar Raj, the only other Malaysian in the preliminaries today, placed 44th on 167.55.
There were no surprises as Chen Yuxi (435.20) and Quan Hong Chan (399.30) finished top-two in the preliminaries. Great Britain's Andrea Spendolini Siriex (344.0) rounded out the top-three.
Pandelela will have another chance to qualify for Paris in the women's 3m springboard synchronised, partnering Nur Dhabitah Sabri, on Wednesday.
