Elvis not satisfied but Pandelela is content

KUALA LUMPUR: Elvis Priestly Clement wasn't satisfied with his performance in the 10-metre platform despite meeting the Minimum Qualification Standard (MQS) for juniors at the national diving trials today.

The national backup squad member accumulated 365.75 points from six dives to finish first in the five-man field at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil.

That total was good enough for him to clear the MQS mark of 345 points.

However, the 18-year-old said: "I'm unsatisfied with my performance, which dropped after the Malaysia Games.

"I had targeted to reach the mid score for the seniors (380 points) to give me confidence in my preparation for the world junior championships in November," he said.

For context, the MQS scores for the 10m platform are: minimum (juniors) 345 points, mid (seniors) 380 and maximum 546.

Elvis's Sarawakian teammate Enrique Maccartney Harold (356.65) finished second and Sabah's Jellson Jabillin (293.35) rounded up the podium.

In the women's 10m final, Pandelela Rinong showed she is still a force in the sport by surpassing the mid score for seniors.

The Sarawak legend racked up 300.90 points from five dives to finish first in the five-woman field ahead of Sea Games champion Lee Yiat Qing (244.80) from the Federal Territories. Sarawak's Nur Eilisha Rania Abrar Raj (212.70) completed the podium.

Pandelela's total surpassed the MQS mid score for seniors of 290 points.

"I'm grateful because I believe I improved on my total in the prelims. There were some dives where I did really well in the final just now.

"I feel there is progress in my consistency, but I also see weaknesses which I will fix after this," said the 31-year-old.

The MQS scores for the women's 10m platform are: minimum (juniors) 250 points, mid (seniors) 290 and maximum 369.
