KUALA LUMPUR: Harleein Tan is a squash star in the making.

The 14-year-old showed her potential by winning the girls' Under-19 title in the first leg of the CIMB National Junior Circuit in Penang on Sunday.

Harleein, the top seed, won the tournament without dropping the game.

In the final, the Negri Sembilan-born defeated KL's second seed Najwa Zara Fakhrur 11-8, 11-1, 11-4.

Harleein said: "I am excited to have clinched the Under-19 title.

"I have a few areas to improve on. I trust the process as there are no shortcuts," said Harleein, who will next compete in the Penang Junior Open on June 11-16.

Harleein is using the tournaments to prepare for the Asian Junior Individual Championships in Islamabad, Pakistan, from June 25-29 and the World Junior Championships in Houston, Texas, on July 12-17.
