KUCHING: The baton run for the 2024 Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma 2024), which began in the northern part of the state on April 27, ended in Kuching today (June 23).
The run concluded in Kuching after passing through 11 other divisions in Sarawak.
The symbolic 'flag off' for the 4.1-kilometre run in Kuching was officiated by Sarawak Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Sarawak Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, at 7am.
Approximately 1,000 Kuching residents participated in the run, which started at the Kuching Waterfront amidst light rain.
The baton run previously passed through the Limbang, Miri, Bintulu, Mukah, Sibu, Kapit, Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman, Serian and Samarahan divisions.
Sukma 2024 will be held in Sarawak from August 17 to 24, involving nine divisions - Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri.
This edition of the Games will feature 37 sports with 488 events, including 236 men's events, 217 women's events, and 35 mixed events, bringing together 12,619 athletes and officials.
Sukma, introduced in 1986, has been hosted in Sarawak twice before, in 1990 and 2016. – BERNAMA
