KUCHING: Pahang reaffirmed their status as the heavyweights of Malaysian shooting after once again emerging overall champions in the sport at the Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma) today.
Pahang won 12 gold, five silver and four bronze in total while Negri Sembilan (12-3-4) came in a close second. Hosts Sarawak settled for third on 0-4-6.
Pahang have dominated the sport at Sukma for 16 years now.
Their coach Elina Sotnik had nothing but praise for their shooters who she said have been very disciplined and focused in training.
"I did not set any (medal) target for them. All I said was just shoot and don't be scared," said Sotnik, who is from Russia.
Cheah Zen Hong delivered the bulk of the gold for Pahang, after winning seven events to become the most successful male shooter of the games.
Sayyeeda Khadeeja Mohammad Anis was also in impressive form for Pahang, winning four gold. Pahang also won the men's 50m prone via Ahmad Zaffin Kushairie Mohd Azman, Hairiz Haiqal Ramlan dan Muhammad Fikhri Hafiy Mohd Fazley.
