The Olympic tide is against sailor Shazrin

KUALA LUMPUR: It hasn't been smooth sailing for Asian Games champion Nur Shazrin Latif in her Olympic preparations.

The sailor is fighting against time to get back her momentum for the Paris Games after one month of rehabilitation following a right hand injury.

National coach Asri Azman said the 26-year-old from Pasir Gudang, Johor, only started training at Langkawi this week.

"She hopes to get back her form fast as the Olympic sailing competition starts on Aug 1."

Asri said Shazrin has not gone for any competitions since competing in the Last Chance Regatta in Hyeres, France, in April.

"We are expecting Shazrin to create a surprise in the Paris Olympics, and we still hope she will perform to her best despite less than one month of training."

He said Shazrin will leave for France this Sunday to train at the Olympic venue in Marseille.

Shazrin will be featuring in her third Olympics. She finished 33rd in the women's radial laser in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 26th in 2021 in Tokyo.
