KUALA LUMPUR: Johor secured their first men's open national title since 2013 in style at the National Sevens Championships in Terengganu today.
Johor had little difficulty downing Selangor 22-0 in the final at the Tengku Muhammad Ismail Rugby Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
Their tries were scored by Kamal Hamidi Raihan, Azwan Zuwairi Mat Zizi, Zulhisham Rasli and Ammar Mohamad Zamri with Azwan converting one.
Johor had also whitewashed Negri Sembilan 31-0 in the semi-finals while Selangor edged Putrajaya 19-14 to secure their place in the final.
Johor had earlier in the day claimed the men's under-21 title after beating hosts Terengganu 26-12 in the decider.
The women's open category witnessed favourites Selangor living up expectations by beating Perlis 15-5 in the final.
Selangor, however, lost 17-0 to Terengganu in the women's under-21 final.
Johor took home RM5,000 prize money for their win in the men's open. Winning teams in the women's open as well as the men's and women's under-21 categories received RM3,000 each.
