'Crazy start' for Aussie Olympian robbed days before competition

KUALA LUMPUR: An Australian BMX star had a "crazy start" to his Olympics trip after he was robbed just days before he was set to compete in Paris.

According to news.com.au, Logan Martin's van was broken into in Brussels, Belgium, earlier this week.

A video he posted shows the van's windows were smashed. Some personal belongings, including his wallet and backpack, were stolen.

"Luckily my bikes weren't in there, although my bike bags were in there with some things in it.

"Crazy start to the trip. It's unfortunate when people feel the need to do things like this."

Martin said he found some of the stolen items which were dumped and strewn across a park.

Australia's chef de mission Anna Meares said they would replace stolen items, including helmets and boots.

Previously, Australian Olympians were advised against wearing team uniforms outside of the Olympic Village in Paris following an alleged rape of an Australian woman and an alleged attack on two broadcasters from the country in the city.
